Booking and practicalities

How do I book?

Call or WhatsApp on 07957 219 698, or email hello@hooves-paws.com. Tell us which service you want and a little about your dog or horse, and we will confirm a time.

How far ahead should I book?

Appointments are often booked a few weeks ahead, so get in touch as early as you can. If you need something sooner, ask, because cancellations do come up.

When are you open?

We are open Monday to Saturday. Exact appointment times are agreed when you book.

What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?

Please give as much notice as you can, ideally at least 24 hours, so the slot can be offered to someone else.

How do I pay?

Payment is taken at the end of the appointment. Ask when you book which payment methods we accept.

Where are you based?

We are in Turriff, Aberdeenshire. Get in touch for directions and parking when you book.

Dog grooming

What does a groom include?

Bath, dry, clip and finish, tailored to your dog's coat and breed. Nail clipping and ear cleaning can be added, or booked on their own.

How long will it take?

It depends on your dog's size, coat and what they need. A bath and tidy is shorter than a full groom. We will give you a rough idea of timing when you book and agree a collection time with you.

How often should my dog be groomed?

Most dogs do well with a groom every six to eight weeks, though it varies by breed and coat. Curly and long-coated breeds, such as poodle crosses and spaniels, often need it more regularly to prevent matting.

What should I tell you before the appointment?

Let us know about any health problems, skin conditions, allergies or medication, and anything about how your dog likes to be handled. Tell us too if they have been groomed recently, and what you would like done.

Do you groom puppies?

Yes. A short first visit to get used to the bath, the dryer and being handled is a good start. Ask us about the right age for your puppy, which is usually once their vaccinations are complete.

My dog's coat is matted. What can you do?

Heavy matting can be uncomfortable to brush out, so it sometimes needs to be clipped short instead. We will talk through the options with you before we start.

Can I book just nail clipping or ear cleaning?

Yes. Nail clipping is a short appointment on its own, and no full groom is needed. Ear cleaning is gentle, and anything unusual is pointed out for your vet.

What if you find a lump or a skin problem?

Emma is a veterinary nurse, so she looks over skin, coat and ears as she grooms. Anything unusual is flagged to you and pointed out for your vet. She does not diagnose or treat, so always have your vet check any concern.

Horses and ponies

What do your horse check-ins include?

Field checks, rug changes, feeding, and turning out and taking in. We also offer show grooming. Tell us what your horse needs and when, and we will confirm what is possible.

Will I hear how my horse is?

Yes. You will get regular updates while you are away. Tell us how you would like to receive them, for example a call, text or WhatsApp.

What do you need to know about my horse?

We will ask for your vet's details, your contact numbers, and the routine for your horse, such as feeds, rugs and turn-out. As a veterinary nurse, Emma will let you know if anything looks wrong.

Which areas do you cover?

We cover Turriff and the surrounding area. Tell us where your horse is kept and we will let you know if it is within reach.

Can we meet before you start?

Yes. Get in touch as early as you can, and we can arrange a first visit to go over your horse's routine before you leave them in our care.

Other animals and veterinary nursing

Do you look after small pets?

Yes. Emma can look after anything from rabbits to reptiles and anything in between, and your pet is checked over by a trained nurse. Ask about your pet.

Do you offer locum veterinary nursing?

Yes. We offer qualified nursing cover for veterinary practices. Get in touch to talk it through.

Are you insured?

Yes, we are insured. Details of our cover are available on request.
